Turiya(Ridge Gourd) Paatra Nu Shaak



Ingredients:
  1. 2 cups ridge gourd (turiya), peeled and diced
  2. 1 cup lavingya paatra ( I use ready paatra from Deep) Sliced
  3. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  4. 1 teaspoon green chillies, chopped
  5. 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  6. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
  7. 2 teaspoons coriander-cumin seed powder (dhana-jeera)
  8. 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  9. 1 teaspoon sugar
  10. 1 tablespoon oil
  11. salt to taste
  12. For the garnish 1 tablespoon grated coconut
  13. 1 tablespoon chopped coriander

Recipe:

  1. Heat the oil in a handi and add the cumin seeds. When they crackle, add the ridge gourd, 2 cups of water and salt and cover with a lid.
  2. Add the green chillies, ginger paste, turmeric and coriander-cumin powder and cook until the ridge gourd is tender.
  3. Add the paatra, lemon juice and sugar and simmer for 5 minutes. Serve hot, garnished with grated coconut and coriander.
